Artificial intelligence in the retail world is no longer just a supportive feature added to digital channels. It is transforming into a new experience layer that understands the customer’s needs, evaluates the context of the shopping moment, and ensures they reach the right information at the right time.
One of the most concrete areas of this transformation is grocery shopping. Because customers no longer just want to purchase products, they want to quickly find the product they’re looking for, learn about stock availability, see suitable alternatives, not miss out on campaigns, and make their shopping decisions more easily.
Developed for CarrefourSA, Alista has come to life as a next-generation AI experience that responds to exactly this need. In line with CarrefourSA’s “New Generation Market” vision, Alista, which has begun to be used in stores, aims to make the shopping journey more personal, faster, and smarter.
An AI Agent That Takes on Tasks During Shopping
Alista is positioned as a task-oriented AI Agent that customers can access via QR codes inside the store, offering support at different steps of the shopping process.
When a customer is in the store and wants to find a product they need, check its stock status, inquire about their CarrefourSA card points, view current campaigns, or get directions to the nearest store, Alista steps in. This way, customers can reach information more quickly and easily at the decision-making moments of their shopping journey.
Unlike a classic digital support flow, this experience puts the context of the shopping trip at its center. Rather than simply being a structure that answers questions, Alista offers an AI experience that accompanies the process by taking into account the customer’s immediate need, shopping purpose, and preferences.
Product Availability, Personalization, and Decision Support in a Single Flow
One of the most critical factors shaping the customer experience in retail is product availability. Customers want to quickly find out whether the product they’re looking for is in stock, discover alternatives, and learn about related campaigns. By directly addressing this need, Alista makes product search and stock-checking processes a natural part of the shopping experience.
In addition, Alista can offer more personalized recommendations by taking the customer’s past shopping habits and preferences into account. It can guide customers within seconds when searching for products suited to vegan, gluten-free, low-sugar, high-protein, or other dietary preferences.
Recipe support is also an important part of this experience. Customers can get practical recipe suggestions based on the ingredients they have on hand, and discover the products and alternatives they need within a single shopping flow.
In this way, Alista brings together different steps of the shopping journey, from product discovery to stock checking, from campaign information to personalized recommendations, in one intelligent experience.
Agentic Commerce: A New Approach in Retail
The Alista project also demonstrates the new point that artificial intelligence has reached in retail. AI is no longer just an interface that presents information, it is an intelligent decision-support mechanism that brings together customer experience, operational data, and personalization.
This approach can be defined as Agentic Commerce. Agentic Commerce refers to a new retail experience in which AI Agent structures that take on different tasks in the shopping journey, understand context, and support the customer in a more natural flow work together.
In this model, AI doesn’t just respond to the customer’s needs, it helps understand, interpret, and make the shopping process more efficient. Finding the desired product, evaluating alternatives, viewing campaigns, discovering products suited to personal preferences, and speeding up the shopping decision all become part of this experience.
AI That Remembers, Preserves Context, and Personalizes the Experience
One of Alista’s most important distinctions is that it doesn’t restart the customer experience from scratch with every interaction. By offering a more contextual experience based on shopping history, customer preferences, and immediate needs, it takes the role of AI in retail a step further.
This shows that personalization in retail has moved to a new level. Personalization is no longer just about recommending products to customers, it now means being able to offer more accurate guidance by understanding the customer’s shopping motivation, needs, and decision moment.
And this is precisely what will make the difference in the retail of the future: intelligent systems that know the customer, preserve context, and deliver a more meaningful experience at every touchpoint.
Inspark’s Perspective: Turning Technology into Real Business Processes
As Inspark, we are proud to contribute not only to the development of a new digital experience in the Alista project, but also to transforming CarrefourSA’s customer experience vision into a smarter and more scalable structure with artificial intelligence.
In this project, we brought together generative AI, AI Agent architectures, and our enterprise integration capabilities to design an experience that creates value at different steps of the shopping journey. Spanning from product discovery to stock checking, and from campaign information to personalized recommendations, this structure became a powerful example of how AI in retail can translate into concrete business results.
Today, retail is being reshaped not just through channel management, but through intelligent experiences that deliver faster, more personal, and more meaningful value to customers at every touchpoint.
Alista stands out as one of the strong examples of this transformation in the Turkish retail sector. As Inspark, we continue to support organizations in approaching artificial intelligence not merely as a technology investment, but as a strategic transformation area that redesigns the customer experience.
